Do you have nearly as many shoes as a shoe store lurking somewhere in your closet? It’s a mess isn’t it? Just where are you supposed to put them all?
Okay so you love shoes but hate the hassle of storing them. I get that. If you want to find the perfect pair without a lot of digging or are constantly wishing for an easier way to organize your shoes by style here’s some solutions.
What about a spiffy shoe organizer? Anything that you can hide behind a door, under your bed, or a place less visible but easy to get to will do.
Now if you want to take the route of closet storage, the closet design pros strongly recommend adjustable shelving. These give you enough storage space for your shoes as well as other things that you need to store. Being adjustable such shelving can hold different types of foot wear. This means more space for boots, enough space for your favorite heels and small spaces for sandals or flips flops too. Right, what’s not to like?
Angled shelves are another option. As are pullout trays. Neither is as adaptable as adjustable shelves however.
You can also use shoe cubbies though this option is not so highly recommended. Why? The number one complaint is they are made to hold smaller shoes and smaller shoes alone. What’s worse, often only one shoe can fit into a cubby so as you’d imagine this is not so efficient when it comes to shoe storage.
Whatever you do don’t be tempted to use those plastic storage boxes to store your shoes especially the leather ones. Leather needs air to breathe and plastic boxes traps moisture and odor which isn’t good for your footwear.
Now storage units that slide under your bed are a good option. This is a perfectly good storage space we sometimes forget about entirely. Yet you need something strong to do the job. So don’t make the common mistake and buy anything made from cardboard. Remember, you have to pull the organizer out from under the bed whenever you get your shoes. Flimsy storage devises won’t stand up to the strain.
Lastly, you can make use of the back of the door of your bedroom or closet. A storage system with clear pockets is the best bet for storing shoes there. You can also use this for keeping other things like socks, craft supplies, even your digital camera. The advantage with this system is the clear pockets make it easy for you to find what you’re looking for.
